Gray or Grey? What's in a name?

I've always been a stickler about spelling. This is mainly because I am terrible at math, so naturally any talent I do have in another area should be flaunted right? Ha ha, but really, I've always felt a twinge of regret thinking that I never tried for a spelling B in school for the reason that I will never know if I would have won. Don't you just love those 'Woulda Couldas' that creep into your mind on a random Thursday morning? What are yours?

But on to my REAL question...

How do YOU spell gray/grey?

Why do I ask? The color grey/gray is having a huge affect on the design market right now. From fashion to home decor to web, you'll find it used as a base color to neutralize bright vibrant tones and their collaboration is nothing short of FABULOUS!  Take a look at a few samples:

Are you feeling that grey/gray vibe yet? To solve this debacle, I'd like to take the 'not so scientific' approach and do what politicians should be doing right now...ask the PEOPLE! That means YOU.

The voting for this post is CLOSED now.
HERE were the results:

So it looks like MORE people use the spelling GREY over GRAY.

Even though it seems to me mostly preference, I went ahead and checked out what the scholars are saying regarding the matter: This comes from http://www.greyorgray.com/

When all else fails..
grAy is how it's spelled in America
grEy is how it's spelled in England

So take that or leave it. I guess when it comes to gray/grey, it's whatever feels right to you!

In the meantime, we'll be here in the TCBOTB design lab cooking up all sorts of cute stuff for you!

Thanks for voting!

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I tried to vote and I got an error message, not allowed.

I've seen it both ways. I prefer gray.

  2. I'm kind of obsessed with gray now. Like every skirt I've bought recently I've noticed is gray. And if repainting and redecorating my front room wasn't such a big chore, I'd totally be doing it in yellow and gray. Guess I'll have to settle for skirts : )

  3. Thanks Kathie! I think I've fixed it now. I'm with you, I prefer gray. :)

  4. Ya Tammy, I love the gray and yellow look too! But, I'm sure in a couple years it will be a new fad, so I'd stick with the gorgeous living room you have now!! Yah thanks to Designer Blvd, I have plenty of gray in my wardrobe too!

  5. So glad to see most everyone has gone for GRAY thus far! My last name is Gray so I'm sure it's not hard to imagine why I prefer spelling it w/ an "A"! =)

  6. When I was younger, I would go for all the vibrant colours in the rainbow. But, now my wardrobe is filled with mostly black and gray hues. Is this a sign of impending old age?

Love your poll. Very creative way of sprucing up the blog. Trying to put up one on mine. Will let you know if I succeeded.

  8. I'm not sure why but to me Grey is a proper name and Gray is the color.

  9. Hi Ash and Bek.
    Please help.
    I've a big problem.
After putting up the blog poll on my blog, I faced problems with my header and footer. I'm currently using the Mother's Love template.
Please check on mine, see what can you do to rectify it.
Really appreciate it if you can guide me to diminish the nuisance brown blocks on the header and footer.

    Thank you very much.

  10. Hi. I am trying to use your modern spring template, but the background that I was using from you all keeps showing up behind it and I can't seem to get it fixed. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Rene'

  11. Question-

This is unrelated to your current post (which I love BTW), but how come there is no code for the banners on your TCBOTB site? I love the banners and would love to use one for my new blog, but I'm not sure how it's suppose to be added to my blog without a code.

    Thanks!

  12. Hi HK, the instructions for the banners differ from the instructions on the backgrounds. Here's how they work:

    1. Right click the image and save it to your desktop.
    2. Customize the image how you want.
    3. Log on to your blog and click 'edit' on the layout page where your header is. Click browse and upload the image.

    Hope this helps. :)
